How to get my brother to go to church?

Postby cleirach70 » Thu Jul 26, 2012 3:18 pm

So here's my story;
I'm 13 years old. I started going to church at the end of 5th grade. I was introduced to the church by my oldest brother, Kyle. He was introduced to the church by his girlfriend (now his wife). I never really knew what 'christianity' was until last summer, at my Summer Youth Retreat. That was when I gave my life to Jesus. Soon after I got baptized. I learned that Lori (my sister-in-law) and Kyle have also given their lives over.

I was born into a family of non-believers. My parents both thought the idea of Christianity was ridiculous, even though they both grew up going to church. Now, my brother Curtis is just like them. He only follows 'logic', and has never stopped to think that there just might be a God. Recently I have become so worried for him. Kyle, Lori, and I have all unsuccessfully tried to get him to just go with us to Church, many times. Tonight I left a welcome card for my church in his room, he picked it up, looked at it, went over to where I was sitting, and gave it back to me. He also said "not going to happen".

Long story short.... How can I get Curtis to go to church!? I love him to death, and I know he's been going through a rough time. I don't want to see him get harmed, and I don't want to see him resort to things like drugs to solve his problems (which he already has).

Please, do not make fun of this. Any answers that are not serious will be deleted.

I really believe this could change, or save, his life.

You don't. You respect his wishes and don't nag. If he wants to go at some point, he'll probably tell you.

Respect your brother.You do not own him and the more you try to drag
him the more he will drift away.

You don't.

So you have managed to make yourself pretend that the mythology of the ancient Middle East is worth taking seriously. Expecting your brother to do so is inane and ultimately selfish on your part.

If you want to believe in fairy tales then so be it. Just don't try to push them on others.

If your brother doesn't want to go to church, DON'T make him. That would be a big mistake. If he believes in something do not change his ways. The drugs issue won't be solved by converting, I personally know devout Christians who have resulted to drugs, that's what counseling is for. Forcing someone to believe in something won't make things better. The only way for him to convert would be for him to do it himself. Scientific evidence has him convinced and that won't change, my personal experience.

It's his life and he has the right to make his own decisions. Back off a little.

Don't. He is a grown man able to make his own decisions and having his own beliefs.

Please, stop pestering him.

If he's going through a rough time as you say, he needs your support and not your nagging.
