How to order documents in a folder based on how I want them ordered?

Postby arvad » Sun Jul 22, 2012 2:57 am

I created several folders for different stories I like to write in my spare time. Right now when I open my folder I see chapter four first, then chapter one, chapter three, chapter two etc. In other words, my documents are all jumbled up. I tried cutting and pasting them in the correct order, but that did not work at all. I clicked the help button, and they explained how I can arrange my documents by different properties. I don't want to arrange my documents by tag, date, author or any other property. I want to arrnage them by my personal preference. I would like to put the chapters in order, so chapter one should be first. How could I do this? Thank you for any advice.

whats wrong with sorting by NAME.
the default Unsorted is a list in order of when they are added to a folder.
so if you multi selct and cut and paste from somewhere else
you wont get the order you want.
This is because windows might MOVE all the BIG ones first.

what application do you use to WRITE these chapters?

a useful utility used for Unix is Touch.
PC users have copied the idea
this takes the current date/time and Touch's a file.
you could do this after you have finished a chapter and thereby apply your own order

The Touch should change the Creation Date, but may also change the Last Modified date.

The way they are labeled now, they are being sorted in alpha order. Why not put 01 in front of the first file and 02, etc. before the names, or even a, b, c, etc.

If you put only 1, 2, 3, in front of names, they will be sorted as 1, 11, 19, 2, etc.

Good luck.
