I am scared to meet my girlfriend's father and mother?

Postby melville » Fri Apr 01, 2011 4:39 pm

Hello. I am really scared to meet my girlfriend's mother and father because they seem like very high-class type of people. The father has a PhD in pure mathematics, a PhD in theoretical physics and a Masters in economics. He is a professor who teaches at Yale. The mother is a corporate lawyer with a PhD in law and has successful firms. I am currently in my second year of university as a chemistry major.

I am scared I might say something stupid or not be good enough for them :(. I don't know how to act and I wish I did not have to go over to their house on friday night. How should I act? I don't know what present should I get? My gf tells me not to worry but why am I getting so worked up? :(

try being yourself... just chill, its going to be fine, hopefully people like it when other people just act normal not nervous or anything. for example what do you think of people that you or talking to, and our just getting to know them dont you hate it when they act SO nervous and shy? its like seriously be yourself :) thats probably the best advice i can give

She's right you shouldn't worry. The more you worry means the more nervous you'll be and you'll be even more likely to say something really stupid. Just relax and be yourself. You can never go wrong with a mixed bouquet of flowers for mom, and also get a bottle of wine! Just be polite and courteous, offer to help with the dishes after dinner, etc. Use your manners and common sense and everything should be fine!
