I bought a car from craigslist 4 days ago (infiniti g35) and the day i drove it on the highway the check ?

Postby francisco » Mon Dec 19, 2011 4:10 pm

Engine light came on, followed by the car overheating, and then I found out the transmission started "slipping". I paid $7,200 for the car. Since this car is a rebuilt title from a private owner dealership I wanted to know if this would fall under the "lemon law" or am I just stuck with this car to fix?! I signed no contract whatsoever. PLEASE HELP!

First... You did not buy a car from Craig's List. Craig's List does not sell cars.

You bought a used car from an individual who just happened to advertise the car for sale on Craig's List. The car had a rebuilt title and you knew that before you handed over your $7200. It's YOUR CAR and YOUR PROBLEM!

There is no lemon law that covers individual stupidity.

Derick, you got swindled and there is little remedy under the law for used vehicles. Buyer Be Ware (Caveat Emptor) and you should have had the car checked out BEFORE you handed out the cash. Sorry. Lemon laws typically apply to new cars purchased from a dealer. So sorry, but you are stuck with this car and I seriously doubt you can contact this person anyway. Please get some advice before buying any car, used or new. Sorry.

When you buy from private individuals the law often side with the seller. You buy as is. When you buy from a dealer you can ask for some form of warranty. You should always take a car you don't know much about and run it on the road, fast and slow with many stops some of them hard. Then pull over somewhere and look under the hood for smoke or water leaks and it's always best to bring someone along that know something about engines to check it for you, if you're not knowledgeable. Anything over $5000 you need to be more careful. Small claims court may be able to help, often the guy will settle rather than have to appear in court.
