I got a speeding ticket in Vermont for going 92 in a 75, what should I do?

Postby curran » Mon Mar 12, 2012 2:36 pm

So all I'm doing is about 90 on the wide open road where there was nobody else last night, the speed limit drops from 80 mph to 75 mph, and the road was very well lit. everything was going perfectly fine until this stupid cop decides to leave his job of patrolling the highway just to pull me over. The cop told me that I was driving 92 mph in a 75 mph zone. So he wrote me a $986 ticket, arrested me and impounded my vehicle. While I was in the car, he measured my BAC and it was 0.1549, so he added $1,006 to the ticket. I had to pay a 2,500 bail just to get out of the jail, which is only for real criminals, but had to pay an additional $1,003 for trying to break out. And I finally got my car back today after paying an expensive impound charge. I also had to pay a $983 fine to the community for endangerment, and my insurance charged me an additional $1,000 per year.

My license is now suspended for 1 year, but I can also pay a $500 reinstatement fee after 3 years to get it back. Overall, what a bad day I had. All I was doing was driving a tiny bit over the speed limit. But yet I had to spend the night in jail, pay all that, and go to freaken court. Help what should I do

pay the ticket, go through the consequences of your actions and move on with your life.

What should you do? Do some research before inventing your fairy tales.

And changing the story from California to Vermont doesn't change the fact that it's not true. (BTW, there is no highway in Vermont with a 75 MPH speed limit.)

Hannah is correct. You made an extremely poor choice and did not care about yourself or anyone else on the road. You deserve to be punished and I hope you learn from your actions of drinking and speeding while driving.

Pay the troll ticket. Driving 90 is reckless regardless of if the speed limit is 80 or 75. Also, the state trooper does not assess fines, it is the courts or the price is set. Nevertheless, the state trooper had nothing to do with it other then to charge you with the crimes you have committed. z

You should just pay the ticket before the due date expires.

For one he didn't leave his job, he was doing his job by writing you a ticket, and making yourself feel better by saying the road was well lit and it was wide open with no other cars does not change the fact that you were going 17 miles over the posted speed limit. Not to mention you were drinking.

You probably left a few details out, from the looks of it you were probably verbally abuse towards him. Plus you were drinking so yea it is your fault and you should just man up and stop blaming other people for YOUR mistakes. He was just doing his job and you were not doing your job, you were acting like an idiot by speeding and drinking and putting other peoples lives in danger.

Wow! you must have a lot of $$$$$$'s, ok so what constitutional law did you break? I'm British so I could be wrong on this, but doesn't it say something about you must have a trial before a sentence can be passed?

All tickets are only 'statute's', and statute is only law if you agree to it, as you can't have a written law, then someone just go and make up other ones.

So a ticket is an offer of contract, and not law.

Even in our British Bill of Rights 1689 it says: That all grants and promises of fines and forfeitures of particular persons before conviction are illegal and void.
