I got rejected in all my job applications. Now wat?

Postby honi » Sat Apr 02, 2011 7:18 am

Everyone pretty much has the same story regardless of degree or experience. Many places are simply not hiring. This combined with rising unemployment has made it a very bad time for anyone to be looking for a job. There was a janitor job in Ohio last month that attracted over 700 applications!

The only industry hiring right now is healthcare. Nurses and therapists. Even that may not last.

Really there isnt too much you can do but just keep trying and applying. You might even consider trying other ideas for now. If you have contacts from law school or professionals in the field, maybe get together and open your own practice. Network with everyone you know.

You can start a business. You can also do something unrelated to law such as Financial Advising. Financial Advisors can make a lot of money if successful. And investment firms would love the law degree along with a business degree.

You may have to just take something you are at least interested in at least for the short-term until the economy improves.

Maybe it's your cover letter especially if you told the employer you don't have the best grades. Maybe you have to get into another speciality, before you can get the specialty you really want.

Sometimes this is a blessing in disguise. You might apply to work at a major hotel chain. But not as a lawyer. You would be a manager in 2 years. Then get sent around the world. But at some point they would need your lawyer training and you might end up in the exact job you wished for in the first place.
Apply everywhere.
