I have to write an argumentive essay on exact same-sex marriage laws.I am arguing that they should be legalized . My Prof mentioned we could do a survey to see what men and women feel. So I am asking people if they consider they should legalize same-sex marriage laws?

The Human Rights Campaign has been around a long time. There headquarters are in Washington DC. They are a GLBT org. that promotes human rights. I think they are highly legit. The Courage group out of California actually started with people who were working with Harvey Milk. Both groups have been around and are well known in the GLBT community. Either or both should make great references.   DonAlonso 33 months ago

Other countries have allowed the same sex marriage for years without problems and many cultures also allow it. Look into it.   Kaliann 33 months ago

Check out the HRC website. Also the Courage website. Plus, Lisa Ling has recently done a great piece, called Praying the Gay Away.   DonAlonso 33 months ago

Absolutely same sex marriage should be legalized. No question. It is so unfortunate that organized religion teaches same sex marriage is wrong because of something they read in the Bible, a book that down through the centuries has been used to judge, condemn and punish anyone who disagrees with its text. This book was written by a group of opinionated men who had a very small window of what they called 'righteous behavior'. It is so unfortunate that these religious fanatics get voted into public offices by other religious fanatics, and seek to create laws around these beliefs that force everyone to adhere to them. Not every one believes in the moral convictions of Christianity. They are judgmental, limiting, and self-condemning. Free thinking, loving people have been warring with the force mode of Christianity forever and here now in the 21st century it rages on. Then these religious fanatics dare to say they believe other quotes from the bible like: Thou shalt not judge, and Thou shalt do unto others as you would have them done unto you. They are hypocrites.Love and sexuality among two consenting adults should never be under scrutiny by people who have no business entering their opinions into it. It is personal. How dare a group profess to be so elite and superior that they can lord what they say 'god's will is over others that don't believe in that same god? That is the height of egocentric, thoughtless, blatant disrespect for others and other's beliefs, and a slap in the face of equality. Church goers are treated as children by their god, then they proceed to seek to treat other adults as children in the same way, only putting themselves in the position of 'god' over others, especially politicians. This is blatant ignorant behavior. To be denied benefits that the certificate of marriage allows because the two people involved don't fit the criteria of one specific group is a flash from the dark ages.Live and let live. If some god can't see that all love between people as sacred, no matter who they are, it is not a very loving or a very wise god. What kind of god creates people to judge the other people he has created? Insane.Yes to gay marriage! They need to be left alone to pursue happiness in their own way and follow their hearts, as it is their birthright to do!   Skylight 33 months ago

Yes they should. Mostly already explainedbut in rebuttal to danielpauldavis -There are many reasons things in court get overturned. Unconstitutional and judicial precedent > Voter opinion. You complain as if the voters have the right to decide, but your feelings of disgust shouldn't decide another person's choices and hurt their actions when it comes to legal issues(Power of attorney, for example). This is why voters opinion does not mean correct. Interracial marriage and interracial schools used to be illegal too. You think that would've won the vote at the times they were changed? Probably not, but it was the right thing to do.So when you say, win your rights the right way....I believe that's whats going on.Also - go read about matthew shepard if you don't like them comparing themselves to somone being lynched.   Vlakmir 33 months ago

Yes. I see no reason why we should define legality in this country based on the verbage of one religions guidebook. The fact that the Bible refers to a "marriage" as the union of a man and a woman is not a valid reason to deny peoples happiness, or a marriage. And, although some say that a "legal union", giving a same sex couple the same benefits and rights under the law is "good enough", to me that is a cop out. Marriage is nothing but a ceremony, and no one has the right to deny same sex couples that ceremony simply because their religion is against it. We have freedom of religion in this country - and that also means freedom FROM religion. No one religion has the right to push their personal views onto the rest of us, who might not agree with them.I believe that any two people, who love each other and want to share their time on this planet together should be allowed to have the same ceremony, with their friends and family, to share they joy and happiness at finding each other and being joined, legally, in an actual ceremony.   TurboB 33 months ago

I absolutely do think that same-sex marriage and all benefits that come with it should be legalized; i.e., medical and life insurance, purchase of home, power of attorney.   pammyj 33 months ago
