I know law schools don't have specific major but I'm pretty sure some can be pointless. I also already know they judge more on GPA's and LSAT scores. I still need to major in something though. I'm currently thinking about business, accounting, political science, philosophy, or English. My goal is to be a lawyer at a big law firm which explians my reason for thinking about accounting and business degrees. Maybe a major in business since I would be working with big corporations and a minor and English or philosophy since I'll have to read write and analyse situations and contracts a lot.

You're correct that your major doesn't matter much and any of the ones you mention would be perfectly adequate.

If you're serious about corporate law, I think accounting would be a good idea. Business is useless and won't give you any advantage in the hiring process, but accounting or something else specific and useful like finance would be a positive. You absolutely do not need to major in anything specific to get a corporate law job (I have a friend with a BFA in violin performance heading to BigLaw) but a solid, skill-based background can be nice.

Choose a major you're interested in and that you'll do well in. To have a good chance at Columbia you'll need a 3.7+. You should also choose something that will give you a shot at getting a job should law school not work out. This is another reason why accounting is a good option, while something like business or English is not quite as useful.
