I'm suing a doctor for medical malpractice. How much should I ask for?

Im trying to figure out how much to ask for fair compensation. One of my bills is a hospital bill. It cost around $40,000. After insurance I'm paying around $2,000. Do I ask for $40k or $2k back?

I would consult your lawyer.. Assuming you wouldn't represent yourself. Again, I'm not an expert, but I'd assume malpractice included some sort of pain and suffering. Your lawyer will have all the answers and suggestions for that. He/she will tell you what they will be able to get you (approximately) and suggest to you what you should be asking for.

Ask your lawyer. Do this yourself and you WILL lose.
