If I get a speeding ticket, does it affect my insurance?

Postby choviohoya » Sun Jul 29, 2012 8:01 am

So today I was driving down my street going 55km/h and the speed limit was 40km/h (I assumed it was 50, didnt see the sign), and I got stopped by an officer and he gave me a ticket, said its $50 and no demerit points....

Will this affect my insurance? and if I do pay, will I get some sort of reciept in the mail (which I dont want, because my parents will be dissappointed, and I think ive learned my lesson.)

Because you were going less than 17 miles over the speed limit your insurance will only go up a little bit depending on how u pay. Of you pay every 6 months it's a bigger chunk like 150$ also if your a new driver (under a year) if you get another your license can be revoked

You can take an online traffic school, this way it won't show up on your record/insurance.,

Yes it will affect your insurance. The younger you are the more insurance will be affected.

15 miles over is pretty minor and shouldn't affect your policy if it's your first ticket. It depends on your insurance carrier. They have different policies. Some forgive your first ticket if it's just an infraction. If the insurance carrier is consistent about running the driving records of its policy holders you should check the requirements to make sure they don't expect you to notify them.
