And, yes, after that, it's your problem. If you card or number is stolen, the thief will almost always rack up much more than $50 in a rush to drain the thing before it's noticed and canceled. And the crook is usually not caught unless God were to intervene and cause the guy to be caught with the thing on him for some unrelated reason(usually outstanding warrants.) EVERYONE is saying to be careful with credit cards. I only have one that's not a debit card, and I only activated the thing yesterday. I don't use credit cards, and I don't want them, and I manage quite well without them. They are a very expensive "convenience."
