If you are the victim of domestic violence are you allowed to visit the abuser in jail?

My ex called me to come to the jail to handle some of his personal business such as writing checks for thing and his lawyers numbers. I went once and handled some business for him now im wondering if its legal for me to go again. He got picked up for the warrant which was very old at my home and there was not a no contact order before he went to jail so im wondering if I can go back again to the jail. He has only had his first appearance on the 13th?....are there any reprocussions for me if I go and am not supposed to or will they just turn me away. I don't wanna talk about any personal relationship aspects just the law please. Thank you
