I"ve constantly been fascinated by how lawyers and customers wind up with every other. The industry is not formalized like the stock industry and is sort of loose. There are a multiplicity of achievable approaches of consumers locating their lawyers. War stories are appreciated.

This is a funny story My husband was divorced when I met him but through a random series of mental health events, his exwife reopened up their settlement. I was under a lot of pressure in life at the time and decided to see a counselor to help deal with it. He told me about this attorney, that his ex-wife had used to "...screw him over." We immediately went and hired that guy to help us with the settlement. It took 3 years to finalize and it was VERY expensive, however, she got exactly what she was entitled to, nothing more and none of the bogus crap she was trying to get. It was WELL worth paying his fees and then some. He was not close to home and was twice as expensive as we found other lawyers to be but he was really hard nosed and good at what he does. lawyer I found my attorney from a friend who is also an attorney but didn't specialize in the area I needed advice in.  No one else I knew at the time had gone through what I had, so it wasn't possible to get any other kind of referral, as my case was a bit unique from the average person.  I was dealing with copyright law, and there really aren't alot of attornies, at least in my area, that specialize in this. I needed someone with experience and expertise in intellectual property and a bit in art, too.    My friend had worked with this other attorney and highly respected his expertise and experience, and basically hooked us up!   She even went with me to my first meeting with my attorney, partly because she was interested in the type of case I had and eventually she also went into intellectual property law herself.    I have no regrets! I worked with my attorney for about 2 years, and was very happy with the results he obtained for me.   I wouldn't hesitate to contact him again if the situation were to arise again, and have recommended him to others that have found themselves in the same sort of situation I was presented with.  Poppet! 78 months ago Please sign in to give a compliment. If You Ever Hired A Lawyer, How Did You Find Him Or Her? Personal Referral? Telephone Book? Tv Ad? Legal Directory?

My lawyer is a client of my catering and event business, and his family has also attended my old church sporadically. He was a client before I was a client, lol I had signed and paid a retainer to a friend's boyfriend(for my divorce) who never returned a phone call in six months.  It put a terrible strain on my relationship with my friend and I finally let him go.  I then remembered my client and called him to help me out, which he did. I use him because besides being a damn good lawyer, he's a real mensch.  He's patient, flexible, articulate and a really multifaceted human, which makes him delightful to work with.  He is an attentive listener, and doesn't hesitate to give me honest feedback on any topic that I present him with.

Last one - Phone Book I have hired several lawyers(unfortunately) and the last one I just picked out of the phone book.  He turned out to be the best of the bunch. The one that was recommended to me by a friend was the worst.  Each lawyer was hired for a different specialty so maybe you can't compare.  I just hope that I never have to hire another as I really can't afford it. My cousin is a judge, so I get most of my referrals from him.  Many of my friends will explain their legal problems to me and ask me to ask the judge for a referral.  So far, that has worked for everyone concerned.
