In Florida, does "tenant" refer to someone who lives in your house rent free?

There has never been a rental agreement, she was allowed to move in out of charity, and though she has resided there for over a year she has outstayed her welcome and we want her out. Do we really have to go through the process of eviction or can we just notify her and then change the locks?

You can notify her and demand that she leaves. And if she does, then once she abandons the place, you can change the locks. If she refuses to go, she is a tenant just as if she paid rent.

You have to follow the law and proceed with due process.

Give her a written notice to vacate within XX number of days.

If she fails to do so, then proceed with civil court.

Good Luck
