Cool I'd love it.  I grew up with both parents smokers - mom cigarrettes and dad cigars.  So smoking had no allure for me, unlike most of my friends who did it to be "cool".   Once I moved out and went to college, I was amazed how I had been used to being in a smoking house.  Suddenly, if I went out to a concert, I could smell the smoke on my clothes when I got home.   Gifts given by smoker relatives now present a whiff of stale smoke when we open them.   What you're describings sounds a lot like California's laws.  They don't allow smoking in public places - even in bars!   It's awesome.   They tried to pass a ban here on restaurants, but they included an exclusion if the place made more than 50% of their sales in alcohol - then they could have a smoking area.   It was around for a year or two, but then got repealed.   67alecto's Recommendations Thank You for Smoking(Widescreen Edition) Amazon List Price: $29.99 Used from: $5.95 Average Customer Rating: 4.0 out of 5(based on 134 reviews) Thank You for Smoking Amazon List Price: $22.00 Used from: $3.68 Average Customer Rating: 4.5 out of 5(based on 101 reviews) a fantastic book/movie about the Smoking lobby   Video Trailer for Thank You For Smoking 67alecto 81 months ago Please sign in to give a compliment. I don't want to limit others' freedoms. But...smokers unfortunately share their nasty habit with everyone else.   I hate coming away from restaurants(not even bars) wreaking like smoke, knowing that I've been breathing in all that second-hand lung garbage. It ruins my meals. It makes me feel dirty. And it's unhealthy.   Sorry smoker, take it outside!   I've been hoping they'll pass a law like that in Michigan.   Again, I wouldn't mind if it didn't infringe on other people's enjoyment of public places. But it does. Big time.

We have had that law in effect here in CT for a few years now!!!! I am a non smoker. I am not one of those former smokers complaining!   I would like to say I wish there were a few places for my mom to go and enjoy her cigarette.  I have given up on begging her to quit.  She doesn't smoke around my kids or me.  I cannot handle her Pall Mall Golds. They are the worst smelling cigarettes...Ever!  I remember sneaking a drag off of them... And really choking! The no smoking in bars law is crazy.  I know people who only smoke when they drink.  That is the worst law to ever be passed in regards to smoking.  The bar owners are the ones that suffer the most.  This is an absurd law!   The price for the cigarettes... kills me!      Nutty's words that she lives by:  Quit, while you still have Time!!!  If you Smoke... I would love it! No, there is no law like this where I live, but I wish there was!  I'm so tired of going to a restaurant for dinner and coming home and smelling nasty smoke in my clothes!  And this is from the "non-smoking" area!  As someone says, having a non-smoking area in a restaurant is like having a non-peeing area in a pool!  We recently went to a local restaurant and were seated at a table. Noticing how smoky it smelled right there I asked if we were in non-smoking.  Oh, yes, we were, but the bar, which was only about 2 feet away, was the smoking area!!  Geeesh!!   I've been to Columbus and to Washington DC, both towns which have this ordinance, and it's so nice!!  To be able to eat a dinner in peace without smelling smoke is great!  I would also think it might help people to decide to quit smoking after seeing them standing outside in  bad weather to light up...   Poppet!'s Recommendations Stop Smoking Self Hypnosis CD No Withdrawals! In Ohio They Passed A Law That Banned Smoking In Public Places. Would You Be Happy About This Or Upset?

Upset in principle, but mostly happy in practice. We do have a law like this where I live. I don't smoke, but I still voted against it because I think it's every business owner's right to decide whether to allow smoking. If you don't want to be around smoke while you eat, go to a non-smoking restaurant; if you don't want to work around smoke, don't apply for a job at a smoking restaurant. In fact, before the law passed, the whole county had a system of color-coded signs so you could see each place's smoking policy before you went inside, in case you were allergic to smoke. According to the county's statistics, green signs(no smoking) outnumbered yellow and red signs(smoking allowed somewhere/everywhere) by over a 2-to-1 margin, so I thought the law was unnecessary. But it just so happens that all the bars and restaurants I visit used to be smoking places, because some of my friends smoke. It's really nice that I can go to the bar now and not come home reeking of smoke. On the other hand, it also means I don't go out as much, especially in the winter, because my friends would often rather stay home than go someplace where they can't smoke inside.
