Inheritance

Thank you for your response. How do I assure that I will be notified when he dies? Thank you, Petra Followup To - I am a german citizen but I am a permanent resident living in Florida for over 20 years. I was born out of wedlock but paternity was established - his name is also on my birth certificate. My father is of means - but he has never made any attempt to contact me.

I want to assure that I will receive my fair share of my inheritance. How can I have my inheritance paid to me before his death? Thanks for your help. Petra Jones

- Dear Petra,

according to German law your father's wife is entitled to  1/4 of the inheritance and the rest is split between his children. If his last will states something different you will still get at least your "Pflichtteil," which means half of the portion you would normally get according to German law.

But you are not entitled to get anything before your father dies. Nevertheless it would be good to make sure that you will be informed by the court when he dies.

Sincerely,

Petra: I would be happy to send a letter to the family representing you. A letter from a lawyer, along with a signed power-of-attorney form from you, will be enough to force them into contacting you officially.

Let me know how you wish to proceed. You can contact me directly at [email protected] My rates are very reasonable(US$50.00 per hour).

Thanks,

Carolin
