International Human rights Lawyer, scientist, or international affairs/translating? Career help?

Postby janyd » Fri Jul 06, 2012 3:36 am

I am 14 and understand that i am young to be thinking so much about my career, but if my age bugs you please pretend i am 20 :) I would like to thank you now for even starting to read this...

I have traveled a lot. I have live in England, Japan, and America and i love traveling and learning about different cultures and languages. I am also a huge support of human rights and equality. I have always thought it was the normal thing to treat all people equally and to fight for what is right. I am liberally minded. I also follow a lot of politics and law and politics are closly related. If i was to be a laywer i would want to work for somewhere like amnesty international or UN possibly in 2nd/3rd world countries. But I understand that law doesn't allow much travel.

So, I was thinking about science. I follow science as love finding out new information. I have ecome very intrested in space and particle physics recently (i know they are very different), but part of me just can see that going anywhere. BEcause of my age though i haven't taken many science class that allow more experimentation and less lecturing.

My third career possibility is international affairs/translating. I genrally like people and feel as though i can easily connect with people. This would allow a lot of travel. I am lfuent in English, and am required to be fluent in spanish by the end of HIgh school becasue of the program i am in. I am also teaching myself AMerican Sign language and plan to be fluent by the end of high school.

No matter what i study i have a dream of going to oxford or cambridge university. I am a straight A student and plan to stay one. Accedemics are my top priority and i don't do any team sports although i compete in forensics (speech competitions). Also next year i am participating in Model UN.

And for any of these careers what classes or extracurriculars should i do?
Thank you again
