Is a patent foramen ovale hereditary?

my sister is 26 and has just had a stroke and they found she had a patent foramen ovale. a blood clot went through this or formed around it and caused her stroke.
my mum has mentioned it may be hereditary and i was just wondering if me and my siblings should be screened/can be screened?

More than likely it formed during fetal development, when they usually form, and did not automatically close at birth as they always do, except rarely they don't close. Likely not genetic, though there is some belief that there is a genetic component.
