Is it illegal for a private or public school to force their students to labor during school hours?

I mean not for detention or anything, but as a substitute for an elective class. We are not getting paid or anything. Just outside in the heat of LasVegas Nevada, picking up trash and rocks. This has to be illegal. It has to go against th child enlaborment laws. If you know anything about this please answer. 10 points to the best correct answer.
