Is it illegal to watch The Avengers on a free movie site?

So my friend knows of this site were you can watch bootlegged movies online. Yesterday he saw The Avengers on this site for free he said you could clearly see that it was being recorded on a snuck camera. He didn't download it to his computer and is not planning on burning it and selling it to anyone. But is he still committing an illegal act by watching it online? I think he is, does anyone know the actual law regarding this. Its become my mission to prove him wrong now! :D thanks.

Of course it's illegal, how can anyone argue that it isn't? However it's almost impossible for him to get in trouble for it so... eh.

it is illegal but nearly everyone has done it so yeah go ahead and watch it it's impossible for people to get traced back anyway really because everyone does it someone's probably doing it while i'm typing but don't go on websites that give you any viruses or trojans then your computer will get damaged and if taken to a shop you might get caught for piracy
