I've heard that if someone trespasses, climbs over the fence surrounding your pool, goes for a swim, & drowns their family can sue you & win. I think "No Trespassing" signs, a tall fence, & a locked gate should make it pretty clear to obey the owner's wishes, stay out, and if you don't you're breaking the law & you're solely responsible for your safety. I've also heard that sometimes it's better not to have "No Trespassing" signs or not to have your name on them for legal reasons.

Not if it's a locked fence. You only lose if there is no fence and it's a child.

Yes.
It shouldn't be. Adults need be accountable for themselves.
Not having the sign makes no legal difference.
But, it is always much better to have them. Probably will scare away honest, literate folk. No sign, no fence at all, hey, even I'd be tempted to take a swim when it' s 110 here!

@CK: No, at least not in AZ. Anyone can sue if they get hurt on your property, even if they get cut on concertina wire while trying to break in.

This is actually true. The first time I heard this was via my home owner's insurance and I assued it was a scam to get you to purchase better coverage. Iooed into it, and it's actually true.
