Yes. A tort is a civil wrong, not a crime.

No, it is its own category but closely resembles a higher species of negligence. There is an emerging malpractice body of law for the "professions."

Tort means wrong. as something that can be financially cvompensated for. You are licensed to do medicine and you did it wrong and I got hurt.
