Is patent leather real leather? Also how do American pronounce ''patent'', like ''patient'' or ''Patrick''?

It's real and it is pronounced as in US Patent office and patent medicine.
I have owned shoes and boots of patent leather.

It is a leather that has had a specially formulated permanent shine applied to it, so it can be cleaned easily by wiping.

The a is like the a in "Patrick," or the a in "at" or the a in "apple." We call it the short a sound.
