Is rainwater harvesting on the seas possible on floating vessels?

Instead of capturing rain water from rooftops of buildings is it possible to capture rain falling on the earth's oceans and seas(3/4 of the earth's surface area) by means of specially designed floating vessels?Will the quality of water be as pure as possible or will rain falling on the seas pick up impurities in the form of unwelcome ions etc?Are there any maritime laws governing this kind of a venture?Has there been any research already done in this field and by whom.Any oceanographical institute already involved in it?

I guess it would be possible but to collect in a amount to make it a viable source ETC I think is not possible.

The weight of rain water alone would be problematic not to mention the dimensions of the vessel concerned, I guess it would be on the same sphere as cloud harvesting.

A much easier alternative is the desalinization of salt water into drinking water

In the days of sail, harvesting rainwater from showers and storms was a valuable and necessary way to top up the drinking water supplies on the ship. Sails make very good rain catchers.

It would be very expensive, but yes it is possible
