Is there a code on where the water meter has to be?

Postby teyo » Fri Mar 16, 2012 3:17 am

I just bought a house and the water meter is on the other side of the street. I never had a house where the meter was located in the front yard.... I wanted to upgrade my water line to the house, but since the meter is on the other side of the road I don't see how I can. Is there a code that says where a meter needs to be located? I really would like it to be located on my property and just doesn't seem right that its not.

That is strange that your water meter is on the OTHER side of the street but, that must be where the water main must be. Typically, water districts tell you that you are responsible for your water service line FROM YOUR SIDE OF THE METER, TO your house. In other words, any problems you have with that water service line from where the meter is, it will be your responsibility even if it fails out in the street.
