Is this amount of time decent for the number of miles I biked?

Postby sampson » Thu Aug 15, 1991 7:48 pm

Due to scheduling conflicts (school/work mostly) I can't get out and do as much as I used to, but it was a slow day at work, and since I've only been working there a couple of weeks they had me take off early to remain in compliance with labor laws. So after moping around the house for a bit I decided to go on a bike ride. I set the stop watch on my Tracphone the moment I kicked off the drive way. I rode around small country roads a bit, and then into town (or the suburbs to be more specific). I would estimate I spent 5-10 minutes of the ride waiting at traffic lights, and some more time stopping to get a view of the downtown buildings from my vantage point. I also climbed up a few hills, and against very heavy wind towards the conclusion of my journey for what I would guess was maybe a mile. When I arrived at my driveway the stopwatch calculated I had been riding for 1 hour, 5 minutes, and 7 seconds. According the route I biked on Google Maps, the total mileage came to 12.5. Given the windy conditions, and the fact I rarely am able to do this (I haven't had a longish bike ride in months) would this be considered good time for the mileage and would there be anything I can do to improve it in the future if not.
All answers appreciated.

That sounds like a good time to me, considering the amount of time spent at lights etc. To improve your time, don't get distracted as much and get out on the bike more to improve your fitness!!

Have fun!!
