Is this world becoming a better place or a worse place ? have human beings become better or worse ?

As human beings we have went to living in caves to travelling to outer space, our laws in developed countries are relatively humane and fair. Throughout history we humans have enslaved other humans and invaded other lands out of sheer ambition, and have committed acts of unimaginable cruelties (concentration camps by Nazi Germans, countless genocides throughout the world, chemical agents being used in war against civilians, etc) Yet at the same time the world has become much more involved in international affairs and universal bodies such as the League of nations and the United Nations have been formed. The noble prize award has been set up for those who work for world peace. We have become more intelligent as a species and have developed technology which makes life much easier (transport, labour, production) yet there are people starving, have not education and cant even read or write. I can give many more examples such as how the Church in Europe had the power of government and not has no power at all. But all in all are very as a race of human beings truly evolved or just attained the intelligence to carry out havoc at a greater scale. Are ethics, morals and goodness correlated with intelligence ?

There is no "good or bad" just shades of gray.

Well religion is holding humans back. You gave an example of the Holocaust, which was done because of religious beliefs. Almost all war has started due to religion. If you look at the countries in the Middle East that are Muslim, they are so far behind technologically because they waste so much time on there religion. Basically, in order for the world to become a more advanced and better place, there has to be no religion.

There is much absurdities in life but they are to be accepted rather than cast aside or ignored. It is a natural part of life to encounter inconsistencies. According to Hegel's philosophy of "Spirit" each time period has had their own obstacles to progress in order to have a higher understanding. Each period has their own goal and unless this goal is reached pain and sorrow continue. Hegel mixes history with a higher being, but not any specific god/s, that provides history with it's own heroes.
You could also just simply assume that advancements do come in terms of socioeconomic and political affair but there is simply no escape from the absurd. This is a type of Mentality from the Absurdist Philosophy. It is an understanding of the absurdities in life.
-Ethics, morals and "goodness" are never sole indications for intelligence. They are simply the perfect counter to flawed Nihilistic reasoning.
