"Jews following Jesus" - your opinion on Jesus' quote re. good tree bearing evil fruit?

Postby naseem » Wed May 30, 2012 11:22 am

Jesus provided the metric he wanted to be judged by -- "a good tree does not bear evil fruit"

So -- in light of the following sampler fruitbasket, please explain your choice to join a "Jewish Christian" church:

- Ethiopian church - a thousand years of anti-Jewish Crusades
- Visigoth church - mass enslavement of Jews
- Greek Expulsion
- Blood Libel based massacres of Jews in Britain, France, Germay, Eastern Europe
- French Expulsion
- British Expulsion
- Catholic Crusades (take the Meinz and York massacres for two concrete examples)
- Martin Luther - Jews should be killed better than Baptised
- Cossacks as "the defenders of the Russian church" - torture, rape, and massacres of Jews (and defilement of bodies)
- Pogroms (Russian church led massacres of Jews which were only stopped after the communist revolution)
- AND - the gift that keeps on giving - presented in its final form by the Christian mystic Sergei Nilus - Protocols of the Elders of Zion (after 100 years - still best seller and main cited justification for anti-Jewish violence among American racial supremacist groups, Russian nationalist-Christian supremacists, and throughout the Muslim world)

Assuming you believe that Jesus was necessary to your salvation -- do you envision looking down into Gehenom on the continued torture of your martyred ancestors? or - what is the fate of their souls?

"Jews following Jesus" - your opinion on Jesus' quote re. good tree bearing evil fruit?

I've heard Jews for Jesus are a whacked-out cult of insane proportions.

Surely a Jew for Jesus is a Christian?

When people follow Jesus, they're no longer Jews. They're apostates.

When people follow Jesus, they're no longer Jews. They're apostates.
Romans 11:16-21
Amplified Bible (AMP)

16 Now if the first handful of dough offered as the firstfruits [Abraham and the patriarchs] is consecrated (holy), so is the whole mass [the nation of Israel]; and if the root [Abraham] is consecrated (holy), so are the branches.

17 But if some of the branches were broken off, while you, a wild olive shoot, were grafted in among them to share the richness [of the root and sap] of the olive tree,

18 Do not boast over the branches and pride yourself at their expense. If you do boast and feel superior, remember it is not you that support the root, but the root [that supports] you.

19 You will say then, Branches were broken (pruned) off so that I might be grafted in!

20 That is true. But they were broken (pruned) off because of their unbelief (their lack of real faith), and you are established through faith [because you do believe]. So do not become proud and conceited, but rather stand in awe and be reverently afraid.

21 For if God did not spare the natural branches [because of unbelief], neither will He spare you [if you are guilty of the same offense].

"Jews following Jesus" - your opinion on Jesus' quote re. good tree bearing evil fruit?

Yes, there have been many ugly episodes in christian/jewish relations, with the latter, due to minority status, bearing the brunt of it all (except perhaps for the very very earliest christians, who were persecuted by the likes of Paul). But many times I get the hunch that Jews use this ugly history to keep the Christian message at arms length at all times. It kind of reminds me of racist blacks here in the USA. They many times USE the ugly and very real history of racism to justify their own pathologies. The truth can be used for ugly purposes.

As for Jews in hell, I certainly don't believe that good-hearted Jews go to hell. I think they unknowingly follow Yeshua in their hearts. That is what makes them decent folk to begin with. But there are christians out there who actually believe that all non-christians automatically go to hell for "not believing in Jesus". I find that just as morally repugnant as it is theologically laughable. Some Jews-for-Jesus folk unfortunately subscribe to this view.

Kaganate has a kind of point. What do you Jews for Jesus/fundamentalist types have to say with regards to your OWN decent-hearted family members who don't believe in Jesus? Does your sweet ol' grandmother go to everlasting HELL for this? It always amazes me to see fundy christians say in one breath that non-christians (including people born before Jesus) automatically go to hell, only to then say God is good with the next.

Now that I think of it, Jesus's line "by their fruits you shall know them", fits with the idea that all good people are those who love Jesus (whether knowingly, or unknowingly --Jesus is the eternal reality of God being manifested, not created, at a particular point in time, after all). Ultimately, it is the fruit of the tree which should clue you in as to whether the person truly loves God or not. Hateful religious bigots bear no good fruit, but righteous Jews do. Which then, is the "Good Samaritan", so to speak?
