Labor Law Postings

:  If you decide to report your employer you will most likely have to contact each agency(such as OSHA or the state equivalent) regarding the poster or posters they require.  They can usually enforce only those rules for which they are responsible. For example, Oregon-OSHA will not worry about postings for the wage and hour laws.  Thus the contact needs to be with each agency.  A list can usually be found in the phone book for your area or at least someone can get you started.  If you belong to a union, they will have a list of people to contact or will do it for you.  (As a former safety manager, who has been retired for several years, I have not kept up to date on postings other than OSHA.)  Before you report your employer, perhaps you should consider why the postings have not been made.  Have they been taken down to replace and someone failed to follow through?  Were they defaced and had to be replaced?  (There are companies that make the required signs in plastic and I have replaced the old paper ones in several cases because of dusty or dirty environments.  Also, the old ones of paper do get tired, I have seen posters with a date in the 70's and 80's on them and old, obsolete phone numbers and addresses.  Or some clown with a marker adds his or her own personal comments.) There could be a number of other valid and logical reasons.     Is your employer new and unaware of the requirements?  This can happen.  In this case perhaps you can help by explaining the requirements and helping them find the required postings.     Or has your employer chosen to ignore the laws.  If the last one is truly the case, why are you working there?  What will they next forget and how people will get hurt as a result?  Do you wish to be among those - good jobs are hard to find, but so are life and/or limb.     Please also keep in mind that despite all the fine words about reporting anonymously, there is an excellent chance your employer will find out who made the report and most likely will not give you a gift certificate as a reward.  If this is not a concern or reporting is the only way to get the postings, as they say, “Get er Done!”
