Law Question....What Do I Do?

Postby sylvester37 » Fri Apr 01, 2011 7:41 am

Hi,
I need some help on some information.

i currently am on bench warrants for traffic tickets in Louisiana but i reside in Georgia.
i was able to receive an id but not a drivers license

i know my license has been suspended because i haven't paid my tickets off but if i ever get pulled over for driving without it will they see that it is suspended in Louisiana and see that i i have not paid the tickets off yet?

does my license suspension cross over to Georgia?

and if so could someone tell me how do i dispute the tickets in Louisiana?
i was 21 when i moved to Georgia from Louisiana where i was a college student.
the only family i have is my mom so i had to move with her with no money to Georgia.

i found a job and everything but i really want to get my license back asap.
how do i go about doing this the RIGHT way?

i don't want to go to jail something as stupid as this.
i am now 23 and i want to move on with my life, but i need a car,so i cant keep driving around knowing at any moment i could get caught...

plus if i go back home to handle this will i go to jail?
ugh...so many questions,i need some assistance please!

BTW: i have been to jail before because i didnt pay a traffic ticket and got let go on a $15 bond, lol.
but i was supposed to go back but i left with my mom and never had the money or chance to.

Your question is full of contradictions. You state you got an ID but not a license. If you get pulled over you will be guilty of driving without a license.

You will have to contact the courts in Louisiana and ask what they want you to do then do it.

Yes, it carries over. ALL states share a database that other state police can use to check foriegners (as in from different state). Once they run you through the database your name will pop up from Louisiana, and what for.

If your license is suspended in one state its suspended in ALL.

Yep, if you are stopped in GA you will go to JAIL, then get bound over and sent back to LA. The best way to handle this is to CALL the Louisiana dept. of transportation or whatever it is called and ask how much do you owe. Then just start to make payments. Get any identifiers that you may need like ticket numbers, etc., to make sure it is properly noted to your account. Pay in checks or money orders and keep all your receipts. You will NOT and CANNOT get a DL in GA or any other state without paying those old tickets off first. If you go back home to handle this situation, you will be arrested, but at least you will have in FULL detail what is needed to be done to straighten this whole mess out.

Well, the clue would be that you couldn't get a license in Georgia - only an ID due to your traffic tickets. Yes, the cops are going to have access to MORE than the DMV will. They will also arrest you on the spot for your warrant. So no traffic ticket and a pat on the back. It will be hand cuffs and a ride to three hots and a cot.
