There are many attorneys in healthcare leadership positions. Many are with the investor owned "for Profit" companies, but there are also many with traditional community hospitals and health systems. Your background in commercial and corporate law is a needed skill in some organizations, particularly those that are expanding markets and have strategies that require innovative thinking, negations, creative relationships. There typically are individuals with operational background who can handle day to day operations.
I would suggest you begin some networking with other attorneys and contact the American Health Lawyers Association(www.ahla.org) to identify meetings and local contacts in your area.
I do not see many attorneys in traditional operational roles, there are some who completed law school while in those roles ... most quite frankly look for work with law firms or consulting after they pass the bar.
