Legal fees (car accident)?

Postby vanaken25 » Tue Dec 13, 2011 11:01 am

I was involved in a car accident a couple of months ago. I just received 2 cheques of Income Replacement Benefits and I received a letter from my lawyer asking to pay Personal Injury Advisor fess 15 %?
Is it right for them to ask me to pay from my income replacement? somebody told me they are no supposed to do that but I want some advice from someone that know better about it.
Thanx in advanced

Did you sign a retainer agreement? Look through your paperwork to see if you have a copy. It should say what sort of payment you and your lawyer agreed to. We have our clients sign them so there is no confusion at billing time.

So, your lawyer is asking for 15% of your income replacement? Is that your settlement from the claim? It would make sense if that were the case as you would have agreed to a percentage of the settlement.

I don't know much about personal injury or insurance claims or even billing on a percentage. We take cash retainers up front. I would call your lawyer's office and ask their assistant about the billing.
