Legal question help!!?

Postby fenwick » Thu May 07, 2009 5:23 pm

My daughter has been with a cheer gym for 6 years and all of a sudden they want to force the girls to sell raffle tickets for fund raising. There are to sell a minimum of 10 tickets for $10 each. The Prize is a $500 gift certificate to a Gun store!!! If they do no sell the tickets they will get charged $100 to their tuition account. I know I don't have to pay that as I never agreed to do so in any contract. I don't believe they can legally do it anyways. Does anyone have any law or statement I can say to ensure they don't argue back when I tell them I refuse. I want to keep the conversation short and to the point.

With that aside, they are a good gym and my daughter enjoys her time there.

even if you were to win i think it would not be worth it as they may retaliate in a subtle way than would cause your daughter more distress than it's worth.on principal i see your side and agree with you.but these situations can become political.so i would go along no matter how right you might be for your daughters sake.peace and good luck to you and your daughter.

They can't force you to pay for something you never agreed to buy. That being said, its a good gym. Why not do some fundraising for your daughters gym. Doesn't sound to unreasonable.

I would tell them what they are doing is blackmail or extortion and what they are doing is illegal and if they don't retract this for everyone you will speak to the States Attorney's Office.

You should personally talk with the people at the gym.
