Music video copyright laws?

I got a "friend" to record my music video , he was paid for it , no contract for it though . my music video is now being looked at by tv producers and now because of this recognition, this "friend" has said that they will need to speak to him because he has copyright for the video and that he should profit from it! and that the video is his. surely if he has been paid for it , that is the end in his part and the video is mine as it is my original music and me being recorded ?? thanks
