My grandparents think I'm a two year old?

Postby darrell » Thu Nov 24, 2011 6:24 am

They honestly treat me like one. This was a couple of years ago but anyway it's a story that annoys me. I was reading a book, a big one I think it was breaking dawn or harry potter or something. anyway it was lying on the kitchen table and my grandfather says in all seriousness "that's to big for her isn't it?" and my grandmother said "no, look at the writing it's big." and last night I went to a party, and when I got home today I was hinting at my mum I had a headache, and they thought I actually had s headache but he said "she's to young for headaches at that age." I'm fifteen! My mum says it's because they're old and they're more than 4x my age and they still treat her like a child. They live with us Aswell by the way. I am the youngest of the whole family, like cousins and everything. They honestly dont let me grow up. How can I make them realize I'm not as young as they treat me. And the party was my bestfriends party so it was supervised by her patents and my parents knew there was going to be alcohol, just to let you know so I don't get mean comments:) thank you x

My grandparents think I'm a two year old?

That's what grandparents do. We all go through this.

They can't be changed. All you can do is go about your business and let them observe you.

Also, at 15 - you should learn how furniture functions:
You eat at a table, you sit on a chair, you lay in a bed, you read on the couch/bed/chair/floor - anywhere but on the kitchen table.

Maybe if you started out with treating furniture appropriately - they'll start to take you seriously. Just an idea for a small baby step into adulthood.

Just talk to them?
You must be quite close with them as you live with them and see them everyday. Just stay calm and politely ask them if they could consider your age and treat you maturely. Obviously, you have to act maturely and show independence, but by the sounds of it you don't seem childish. Good luck!
