My Primary Residence Is Bc, Canada. I Will Be Living Part-time In La, Ca, Usa. Can I Keep My Car Registered In Bc?

Looks like some rental agreements say I have to have a California registration in order to park my car in their lot. . . but does CA DMV require that my car be registered there even if my main residence is in British Columbia? THanks.

It may or may not be more expensive for you. for me it was, because California gets a lot of their road taxes from vehicle registration; while Oregon charges $36 for a two year registration; and gets their road taxes form a gasoline tax.a lot of people get away with not registering in CA, and some people who alternate living in two different states register their car in both states, and don't change their drivers' license.I think that the states(and heck, we could cooperate with Canada in this, too) should simply charge a nominal fee to adopt a part time resident's home drivers license, and let them keep the same card; but that would make too much sense.   TheLightWorks 34 months ago

the california requires you to register your car in California, and also requires you to have a california license if you are there longer than the average vacation: I.E. a few weeks. when I was there, when I got the california drivers license, they invalidated my Oregon license; so when I went home, I had to pay a $10.00 reinstatement fee to reactivate it. highly annoying and offensive to me; especially since once I get done going through all the hoops of proving that I was a US citizen and had the right to apply for a drivers license, it was time for me to go home.   TheLightWorks 34 months ago
