My work place violated child labor laws?

Postby hussein » Tue Dec 13, 2011 2:42 pm

I'm 16 and I worked 6am-8pm for 4 days in a row a few nights were 6am-9pm. They worked me and told me not to use the "I have school" excuse because I do it online, I also worked 13 days straight without a day off and NOW they are acting like total, retards and treating everyone like crap and I'm sick of dealing with it. should I report them? I also could get them with discrimination because men cannot wear earnings but women can.

According to Federal law:

If you are 16 or older, you can work . . .

Any day, any time of day, and for any number of hours. There are no restrictions on the work hours of youth age 16 or older. More information is available here: http://www.dol.gov/elaws/esa/flsa/docs/hours.asp

Individual States may have different or stricter rules. You don't say where your work, but you can look up your State law here: http://www.youthrules.gov/states.htm

A company can stipulate a dress code at their place of work. Not allowing men to wear earrings is not discrimination.

You don't say what state you are in, so it's possible there is some state law that's been broken. But other than that possibility, what is it you think is illegal? Federal law doesn't limit hours that can be worked by 16 year olds.

That is a ridiculous number of hours though for a 16 year old to work. Why don't you quit?

And there's zero chance of a discrimination complaint going anywhere over the earrings.
