NC rental laws?? The answers I got b4 were not answering my question AT ALL?

PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE QUESTION BEFORE ANSWERING!!!

I'm moving out of my apartment in 2 weeks. Before I moved in, I gave them a $350 deposit AND $500 pet deposit because I have a dog (I've also paid a $10 pet rent each month). When I went to speak with them about having the move out inspection done I said the only damages they need to repair is the carpet will need to be replaced (from stains when my puppy wasn't potty trained yet). They said that I will have to pay for that, the money I put down for the deposits will NOT go towards replacing the carpet.
This is not my first apartment, I've never heard of any such thing. Whatever deposit I put down always went towards the damages in past rental properties, the apartment complex didn't just take the money for no reason) . And isn't it state law that the carpet has to be replaced (in case of bedbugs or fleas, etc) and walls have to be painted when new tenants move in anyways?? They're trying to rip me off aren't they?

The carpet needs to be REPLACED! Can NOT be cleaned. But that shouldn't matter. I put those deposits down in case of any damages or non payment so that money should go to repairs...

MY QUESTION IS NOT ASKING ABOUT GETTING THE DEPOSIT BACK. I should NOT get the deposit back because of the damages to the carpet so the deposit should go towards that!

The deposit is to cover any damages and you could only be charged if the damages exceeded the amount of the deposits.}{
