my son is 7 residing in texas Im residing in las vegas nv.my ex-wife and I have joint custody.my son consistently states "he cant wait untill hes twelve" so he can reside with me and hes mommy cant say no."I would contemplate him now and not even inquire for childsupport. .What to inform him?I dont horrible mouth his mom or test out to inform him that is appropriate, only I adore him and I will regularly be appropriate here for him. What is age?Is it genuinely that effortless ?I doubt it.

Ncp Seeking Custody

Kids don't make these choices in most states. In TX, I believe that at 12 a child can file an Affadavit of Preference in conjunction with a filing for a change of custody. However, I would simply leave it with "we'll see how things are when you're older, son."

No, it is not that easy. The ONLY way to change custody is to seek it through the courts. He will not be able to decide where he lives until he is 18.

A 12 year old doesn't decide what he wants for dinner, and he doesn't decide where he lives. He can probably express a preference to a judge, but the judge is not going to be bound by the preference.
