Need to know what to do about identity theft when I was a minor?

Postby eadweald71 » Tue May 29, 2012 1:36 pm

Hi Yahoo Community I am 19 years old and when to go apply for my first student loan for college. I surprisingly found out that my credit was used all the way since I was 13 years old ($8,000) of collections, bank accounts, and credit cards. I already filed a police report but they said there is probably little they can do. I feel like I shouldn't be responsible for the debt and am nervous that I may have to consolidate the debt or worse bankruptcy according to a friend. Is there anyway I can dispute this information and will it be hard to do and time consuming (days, months, years). What law(s) can I reference if any that says the credit reporting agencies have to remove this information from my credit report? Thank Yahoo Comunity!

Here are some resources that might help. It's important that you chase this up.
