No Lease Illegal Apartment in NY?

Okay so I'm in a situation where my landlord has been utterly horrible.
Power has been off weeks at a time due to lack of paying LIPA, My sinks leaking
The toilet bowl is broken, theres black mold, He has threatened to hit me before, the list goes on
The apartment is completly not up to code, and im tired of paying for an apartment thats discusting
We have no lease, and I do not plan on handing him this coming rent, so my question is
what legal rights do i have? Can he just throw me on the street since theres no lease and am if not am i limited to either a 3 day pay or quit or a 30 day eviction notice. I've heard plenty of stories of people squating to get back at a land lord for months at a time and getting off scott free. Anyone got any advice for me? How far can i go through with this?

LIPA ? You are outside the "City".
You have till he goes to court and gets an eviction notice.
This is a lot faster in Nassau than the city.
Why would you want to stay there anyway ?
