Now the law of royal succession has changed, does this put the Phillips family higher up?

Postby darik » Mon Nov 21, 2011 12:36 pm

At the moment Princess Anne is 10th in line to the throne, Peter Phillips is 11th, Savannah Phillips 12th and Zara Phillips 13th.

Would the new Act of Supremacy mean that Princess Anne and her descendants are placed above Princes Andrew and Edward, and therefore puts them 4th to 7th in line to the throne, all but the Princess Royal having no royal title?

As for Mrs Tindall, who has chosen to keep her maiden name after marriage, do we refer to this royal person as Miss, Mrs, or Oi You!?

No, the Prime Minister has said the law will only apply to the descendants of the Prince Of Wales and will not be applied retrospectively: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-15492607

No. As I have speculated here several times, the change will apparently not be retroactive. It will apply only to the future descendants of Prince Charles via his sons William and Harry.

What this means is that if both William and Harry died before they produced children, the throne would still go to Prince Andrew and his line, not to Princess Anne's and hers.

No, the changes are for the new generation only. The Line remains the same until the new generation enters it. If William and Catherine have a girl first and a boy second, the girl will remain the first heir.

Apparently not:

Such things are usually changed IMMEDIATELY in Wikipedia.

Hell no! Those commoners are still at the bottom of the totem pole. Even after this silly law passes it only affects those born afterward. Anne will never be queen!

Not one of them can wait to get their grubby hands on the golden goose of public money the Queen steals every day of her life

Doesn't change things retrospectively.

No.It said on this evenings BBC news the new rules are not retrospective. So people like princess Anne will stay the same. I would think we will get some bad language from her!

It depends whether the changes are retroactive, or not.

1. If the changes are retroactive (starting from Queen Elizabeth's descendants), then Princess Anne will indeed move higher in the Line of Succession; she will be immediately after Prince Charles and his descendants, and above Prince Andrew and Edward, and their descendants.
The retroactive change would also mean Lady Louise would be above her younger brother, Viscount Severn, in the Line of Succession.

The Line of Succession would look like this:
Prince Charles ---> Prince William ---> Prince William's children (in order of birth) ---> Prince Harry ---> Prince Harry's children (in order of birth) ---> Princess Anne ---> Peter Phillips ---> Peter's' children (in order of birth) ---> Zara Phillips ---> Zara's children (in order of birth) ---> Prince Andrew ---> Princess Beatrice ---> Princess Eugenie ---> Prince Edward ---> Lady Louise ---> Viscount Severn

2. If the changes are not retroactive (they come into effect starting with the future generations), then Princess Anne would remain in her place.
Prince William and Prince Harry's children, however, will be ranked in the succession line according to their birth order, irregardless of gender.

The Line of Succession would look like this:
Prince Charles ---> Prince William ---> Prince William's children (in order of birth) ---> Prince Harry ---> Prince Harry's children (in order of birth) ---> Prince Andrew ---> Princess Beatrice ---> Princess Eugenie ---> Prince Edward ---> Viscount Severn ---> Lady Louise ---> Princess Anne ---> Peter Phillips ---> Peter's' children (in order of birth) ---> Zara Phillips ---> Zara's children (in order of birth)

3. Even assuming the changes are retroactive and Princess Anne does move up the Line of Succession, her children would still have no titles as titles are passed down the male, not female line.
