NYS. eviction as a person under someone else's lease who doesn’t pay..?

I have moved into a place in january with someone who is leasing the apartment. He still lives there but a lot has happened. I came into this place thinking things will be stable and everyone is responsible enough to pay their share of the rent. I paid my roommate my security and first months deposit. When it came to paying february, march and aprils rent, and even until this month july, the lease holder, who i rented from has not paid one dollar in rent. All months from feb-july i gave my rent directly to the landlord. And come to find out the landlord ha files for an eviction process. My name is in the lease that i do live in a room there, but the lease holder has not paid any rent and i am not in the middle of all of this. I went to court and they postponed it until august. I did however gave the landlord my rent for this month (july) and now i am thinking if i should have done that because at the end of it all, i am still being evicted because of the leaseholders inability to pay his share of the rent. Does anyone with any knowledge or experience in housing please help me out. i am desperate because i am afraid that they will kick me out. What can i do??

you did not say one word about your replacing the non paying
guy. If you are not trying to do that, start trying today.

if necessary, sue him for fraud or breach of contract.
