Children from across the state of Arizona are gathering at the State Capitol on Wednesday, March 16 to protest pending bills against illegal immigration that protest organizers term “hateful and harmful to Arizona’s youth.”The youth, ranging in ages from kindergarten to college, will gather for what organizers are calling a “Youth March and Sit-In” on Wednesday, March 16, at 12:30 pm. Children, parents, and chaperones will gather at Wesley Bolin Plaza at 1700 W. Washington St. At 1:00 pm they will march to the Arizona State Capitol. At the Capitol, the students will stage a “sit-in” on the Senate Lawn. Numerous youth, and some parents, will give speeches.

The march will be led by children from grades K-8 “in order to show the legislature who will be most affected by these hateful laws,” according to Chris Griffin, one of the organizers. “We want the legislature to see face-to-face whose future they are damaging. That’s why we are bringing the children.” Many of the youth will be dressed in costumes of what they want to be when they grow up, in order to show the threat these bills pose to Arizona’s future.

The Repeal Coalition, a grassroots immigrant rights group that is organizing the event, is calling for the rash of recent anti-illegal immigration bills proposed by the legislature to be killed, including SB 1611, SB 1308, SB 1309, SB 1405, and SB 1407. The group is also demanding the repeal of SB 1070 and other current anti-immigrant laws.

The Flagstaff Repeal Coalition is chartering a bus full of children and their parents to attend the event, and children from other parts of the state are attending, too.

I find it repulsive how illegals use their children to further their agenda. They are exploiting their own children to get rewarded for their criminal behavior. These are not hateful laws. What is hateful is the way these parents drag their children here and make them live as criminals. How any parent could do what these illegals do to their children is beyond my comprehension. It is a plea for pity and that is all it is. If they want their children to see reality, then let them see their parents carted away for their criminal actions.

if the kids really believe in it and want to go then you should let them, but it's wrong to force children to protest for your own political beliefs.
p.s. lol the guys name is Chris Griffin

The National Mall: Protest & Rally Central
But not all protests were peaceful. In 1932, 40,000 World War I veterans and families, as part of the “Bonus Army,” marched on the US Capitol seeking advance payment of bonuses that the military had promised them, but was not due to be paid until 1945. When their demands were not met, they then set up a tent city on Anacostia Flats (now Anacostia Park.) After 10 days, President Hoover order the Army to clear out the vets. Led by Gen. Douglas MacArthur and General George Patton, combined infantry and cavalry troops, supported by 6 tanks attacked the veteran’s encampment in a now famous drawn-sword cavalry charge while federal employees watched in horror. By the time the protest ended, 2 protestors and several children were dead.

I have trouble with children of this age participating in protests. Sounds like they're going along because the adults in their lives believe in this action, not really anything more. I'm not against this, but this feels like the little three-foot kids whose parents dress them in miniature Ku Klux Klan costumes. I don't think they believe in the Klan any more than what the Repeal Coalition stands for mainly because they are not old enough. If a parent asks "Do you believe in white supremacy?" the child will provide the answer he thinks the parent is looking for. Ditto anything like "Do you believe these anti-immigration laws are just?"

If you believe in this, then go. But don't pretend the children "want* to be there. It's a clever PR ploy, dressing them up in costumes of what they'd like to be- makes for terrific photo ops, doesn't it? A 30-pound nurse and a 40-inch cop side with a couple of waist-high cowboys and firemen. That'll make all the news channels for sure. But that's just PR. That doesn't really address the validity (or lack thereof) of the cause. Sure, politics makes for strange bedfellows. I just wouldn't put my babies in bed with politicians. Take care!

No way, what if things get out of control and a riot breaks out?!? I would not place my children in a situation like that, and neither should anyone with half an ounce of common sense, but hey, what do you expect from the same people whose can't seem to understand the "please don't bring children" on invitations and such?

Yes, it's a really good idea. In fact, it's been done before.
Durring the civil rights movement, Dr. King did several children led marches. You can read all about it here: http://site.tinyrevolutionary.com/blog/tag/the-childrens-march/ or here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Children's_Crusade_(civil_rights)
