Okay so i want to patent an idea but i dont have a product yet...?

Postby adelphos » Mon Apr 04, 2011 5:45 am

I have the idea & thats it. I would need other people to figure it out & make it for me. It's not something helpful to anyone lol but it is very pretty & i know i could make lots of money. Plenty of people would use it & i could sell it in all kinds of stores & other places.

It would be like chemical bonding or something idk really. So how do i do that? pay scientists to do research & make it work? Im pretty sure it can be done, and i dont think it would take that much time.

How much money do you think that would cost? Its not a big product either.

Thanks

Patents are generally unrealistic for most individuals.

Depending on the idea is question you have to develop a model ("ideas" are not patentable) and then determine if the model (process, product, etc) is something that can be patented (most things cannot be patented).

See the government website for details. http://www.uspto.gov/

In most cases, the process requires a lawyer who is an expert in the area and a lot of money. $100,000 is considered the minimum for a commercially viable patent although they can cost millions before you are up and running.
