Why would anyone want to work as a petroleum geologist or mineral exploration geologist? As far as my understanding goes, these geologists are the people who help corporations decide where to mine or drill. Wherever one of these companies mine, is determined by the above mentioned geologists, they essentially decide which local ecosystems get destroyed by the corporation.
As scientists, I don't understand how these geologists can be so willing to help corporations devastate local life supporting ecosystems. Especially today, when we are causing the sixth mass extinction.
I don't understand how these geoscientists can be so willing to help corporations reduce biodiversity, especially in areas such as tropical rain forests, which contain 50% of all terrestrial life on earth.
Surely no amount of money is worth biodiversity. I am sure there are some things corporations are willing to do to reduce their impact, yet it is doubtful that they are willing to spend the money on such actions that are not required by law.
