I need information please. I am not a lawyer and need information as to how to fight my own personal injury law suit.

I was injured by a falling trash can off the top of a Chicago garbage truck July 2004. I retained an attorney July 2004 who sat on my case for a year without doing anything (but I did not know that). A year later in 2005, out of the blue I received a letter from a second attorney who said as you know I have taken over your case. I had no knowledge of this and asked him how did he get my name and information? He said it was given to him by the first attorney. I was astonished to know that I could be handed off without my knowledge.

To make a long story short the second attorney in July 2008 sent me alone and without preparation to a court ordered all day independent psychiatric interrogation exam hired by the City of Chicago. The entire ordeal felt like I was being gang raped. They humiliated me, taunted me, and made me cry. I did not do well and my attorney quit.

Because I have no knowledge of the law I feel I have been treated unjustly. I am a real person who all I wanted to do was to empty my trash can. I was hurt by the garbage truck, I was hurt by the lawyers, I was hurt by the city psyc docs, and now I am just at my wits end as to how to rectify this situation?

I have been told that I have a year to re-file, and this is why I need help as to how I should proceed? I am very stressed out, worried and just don’t know what to do? Can someone please help me? Please email me at [email protected]

Give it up. You did not indicate that you are paralyzed or lost an arm or whatever, so, I figure all you have is a little pain and suffering?
The garbage business, especially in Chicago, is full of organized crime. There is probably only a tiny amount of money that you could reasonably expect to collect anyway and that is 1) Not enough money to make it worth while for the attorney or 2) There is little proof that you were hit by a garbage can from a particular company's truck.
YOU know that you were hit by a garbage can due to the negligence of the garbage truck crew, but, how could you possibly prove it? The company can afford to spend big bucks for a good attorney who can fill a jury with so much doubt about your sanity, might even say you were on drugs and imagined your injuries.
Oh, and get the h*ll out of Chicago.

First you need to turn both of these attorney into the Bar. These twp attorneys did you wrong! very wrong! You need to get an attorney to from a different city that has know real affiliation to your city or those other attornies.

At the very least RE-FILE, it allows the case to remain open. Seek a couple more lawyers advice, most on personal injury case will work on contingency basis if they think you have a good case. Then work on reporting the prior lawyers to the bar, ask your new lawyers what he thinks about the problems you had with the past lawyers without mentioning names. ( they might be friends ). Don`t give up and let the big guys push you around if you feel very strong about your case .

sorry you did not hit the lottery. you don;'t even say how hurt you were, but, against yahoo terms of service, you post a personal email address here that paints you as a holy roller.

if yo uare not willing or able to manage the people you hire (the lawyers) to to a task for you, then why exactly should you expect results?

the time to understand the situation was at the beginning.

Unless you are prepared to manage the situation properly now, and even then maybe not, your possibilities of success are near zero.

FWIW, there may be no case to begin with, and even if there is, or it is not really clear and a negotiated settlement between both sides is the likely outcome, it still could reasonably take 5 years or more to reach the settlement depending on your claims.

you are not being treated unjustly because you have no knowledge of the law. Instead, because you have no knowledge of the law, you have not bothered to find out what justice is in such cases or how it is achieved. whose fault is that?
