2 weeks ago I walk in my apartment to find that the ceiling was leaking pretty bad. To the point where the light fixture was completely filled with water. We called the maintenance at our apartment. He came out and said that "you just need to let it air out".
After a week, still nothing was done to fix the situation.
I called the leasing office and said that that was unacceptable. There was so much water that you could see it at the end of the sheet of drywall about 10 feet away.
The maintenance crew came by and simply painted over the seams where it was discolored.
I then called the office again and said that that was unacceptable. I was concerned that there could be mold forming up there, which would be a health issue.
This was the response that I got from my leasing office:
"We were able to forward your concern to maintenance and the property manager in regards to your concerns with the ceiling in the foyer. We did confirm with our contractor that he treated the stains and verified that the area was dry before painting. Should you wish to take further actions in having the ceiling/wall area cut open to further investigate we can certainly provide you a contractor to help you with this that you will then have to pay for. Should you and the contractor find something we certainly will do our part in repairing anything found. Since there are no other signs of leaks or water spots, the water has already found its way through at this point and we have followed the proper steps in repair the concern.
Should you have any further questions or concerns please let us know.
Warm Regards,"
I have not responded back yet. I don't feel that this is acceptable, and a potential health risk.
What steps should I take to get this resolved? What rights do I have as a renter in this apartment complex?
