What are some of the duties a private investigator would be expected to perform while working for a personal injury law firm? I am too tired to use google effectively.

The usual role involves information verification. I.e. if someone claims X, verifying that X is true. Your role would also cover opposition research, identifying the opponents weaknesses. You may also get asked to look for fraudulent activities (false claims, alteration of conditions after an accident, etc).
