Property Abandonment Laws

Postby Rolf » Sun Apr 27, 2014 11:06 pm

My husband left our home to live with someone else. We are not divorced. I changed the locks and he told me I had no right to do so. Was I wrong?

Thank you.

Hi Samantha, no you are not wrong. However, if your husband is on the deed of the house you will not be able to keep him out of the home without a court order.

I hope this information was helpful to you.

This answer is based solely on the information you have provided in your question and as always, I would advise that you arrange for an in person consultation with an attorney from my firm or another Family Law attorney familiar with Florida Family Law who can analyze the specific facts and circumstances of the case more closely to better advise you.

Sincerely,

Daniel Bachert, Esq.
